Flash Back Friday: Van Gogh Inspired Designer’s Challenge for Chicago Style Weddings

January 8, 2016

We loved working on the creative collaboration inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Starry Night.

It is always such a thrill when an industry colleague or publication asks us to participate in a creative collaboration. This was the case a few years back when Chicago Style Weddings Magazine asked us to participate in their annual “Designer’s Challenge“, in which talented vendors from all across Illinois are brought together on teams and then tasked with creating a wedding shoot inspired by something. For this shoot, I had the pleasure of working with some truly creative people so there was no shortage of inspiration.

We eventually settled on one of my absolute favorite paintings. Starry Starry Night always reminds me of inky nights when the stars glitter across the sky and anything seems possible, especially love. There was something about the color palette that just resonated with all of us. So we all set our minds to interpreting that inspiration into our various mediums – floral design, cake, invitations, and of course – design.

The jewel tones mixed with metallics was so much fun to create. Ryan Turner of StemLine Creative pulled out all the stops on the hanging floral and floating glass chandelier above the table while Carol Woldhuis Designs upped the inspiration by hand painting place cards on miniature canvases. We were obsessed! And then, the cake. Bittersweet recreated the starry night on the actual cake. It was AMAZING! It is always a pleasure to work with great photographers, and Scott + Cara of Carasco photography never disappoint! Special thanks to Kelly Broz of Chicago Style Weddings for the opportunity. We absolutely loved how this turned out.
Enjoy and Happy Friday! xo
