Glowing, Radiant Skin on your Special Day

January 18, 2011

With all of the cameras and eyes on the bride on the big day, of course every bride wants glowing skin on her special day……we know you only want to look your absolute best! At MDE we are in luck as one of our brides, Heather Landies is an esthetician at the spa at Mario Tricoci at 900 North Michigan. Since we have dedicated ourselves and our blogs this month to finding both our and your “fabulous”, we wanted to get the scoop on how brides can get fabulously radiant skin for their wedding day, so in between site visits, gown shopping, and menu planning for her big day, we sat Heather down and got the 411 from her. Read on to learn more about Heather and how to get that special glow on your special day…

Heather Landies attended the Aveda institute in 2004 after graduating from Butler University with a BFA in dance.  After getting licensed in Illinois she immediately began working her first and current job as an esthetician at Mario Tricoci, located at 900 N. Michigan Ave.  She has been with MT for almost 6 years and stands as one the flagship location’s top estheticians.  Her focus and education is primarily on treatment based facials including: microdermabrasion, peels, l.e.d. light therapy and non surgical face lifts.  She has clients of all ages and skin types, but her favorite of all clients are the brides who are starting to get facials for their upcoming nuptials.  It is a favorite challenge of Heather’s to, “start from scratch and turn a girls face into that beautiful glowing radiant complexion we all see in the bridal magazines.”  She recently became engaged, and with the help of  Michelle Durpetti Events, Heather tells us that she “feels confident my stress level won’t rise too high, but as I see with all brides even just a little stress from planning a wedding can cause break-outs, blemishes and a fine line here or there…”  So, she shared with us a few tips to getting that radiant glow on your wedding day, and managing your skin in the months leading up to the big day.

How many facials should a bride have before her wedding?

At least 2 but preferably 3 to 4. I always tell my brides to work backwards…..you want your last and final facial to be 1 to 2 weeks before your wedding.  From there count backward 1 month and again another month and so on. That will give you 2 to 3 really good exfoliating facials to rid the skin of sun damage, dry skin and blackheads that clog the pores and give the skin a dull appearance.  It usually takes the skin 2 to 3 facials to achieve best results, as your skin gets better and brighter each time.  If your skin doesn’t tend to be sensitive, this is a good time to try a microdermabrasion treatment.  The facial 1 to 2 weeks before your wedding should be nothing but hydration hydration hydration!!!  At Mario Tricoci we offer a popular treatment called Collagen, its the #1 treatment mask I give to brides or anyone with a special occasion.  It’s a way to plump and hydrate your skin to look dewy and youthful and it elongates your facial life giving you that beautiful glow all the way through your honeymoon.

What can you suggest brides (and all women!) use at home to prep skin for that most photogenic glow?

VITAMIN C all the way!! Vitamin C is the leading antioxidant to guard against free radical damage (pigmentation and darkening of sun spots or break out scars.)  It is also the #1 antioxidant to build and maintain the collagen in our skin.  Topical vitamin c is different then eating an orange, it penetrates the pores at a much more intense level generating results in the matter of weeks. Besides using your cleanser, toner, and moisturizer every morning and night, I also strongly suggest exfoliating twice a week before your wedding.  This is a significant step to do in between your facials as it loosens dead skin and begins the detox of your pores, which will make for better results with your professional facial experiences.

Is there a particular facial that you love from Mario Tricoci?

The Red Carpet Facial is definitely a must have “before the big day” facial.  It gets you “Red Carpet” ready!!!  It not only exfoliates with hydrating peel but INCLUDES our collagen treatment ($50 value).  Another treatment I highly recommend is our new organic flower diamond microdermabrasion.  It is a gentle way of exfoliating dead skin resulting in fewer fine lines, pore shrinkage, and lightening dark spots. The diamond tip technique combined with flower grains creates a rejuvenating experience with no redness or downtime.

Luckily with the help of Michelle Durpetti, my wedding is being planned in less then 5 months!…….So while she is busy preparing for my BIG day, I will be working on my wedding glow and hopefully yours too!!!

Well, we feel more fabulous and radiant already!
