Getting Glamorous with Rosie!

February 1, 2011

Every bride has dreamed of that perfect look on her day, and let’s be honest – ALL of us want to look our most fabulous every day right?! We read up on all the tips that esthetician and fab MDE bride Heather Landies gave us in our last blog, and are working to have glowing radiant skin…What is next? Taking that radiant complexion and transforming it into a gorgeous and glamorous look!  To get the scoop on how to create your one of a kind style on your big day, we turned to Rosie Sciano-Mollo at Rbombshell Beauty (a recent bride herself!) Rosie sat down with us and discussed her experiences as a bride and being an artist in her industry.  Read on to learn more about Rosie and how to become the bride you have always dreamed of being….(and enjoy the fabulous photos – some of which you may recognize from an MDE wedding, our “Evening in Eden” bridal event last July, and our amazing collaborative photo shoot for the recent issue of CS Brides! on pages 63-65)

Rosie has been a makeup artist for over 13 years. She provides makeup services for a salon in the Gold Coast in Chicago. She uses many professional makeup lines to best meet the needs of each of her clients, including Jane Iredale mineral make-up. Mineral make-up provides a flawless airbrushed look with supreme coverage that is non-comedogenic (keeping your pores from getting clogged!) and water resistant. She has worked as an artist for video, T.V, studio and fashion runway shows in Chicago. Rosie’s specialty is bridal makeup. Her patience, creativity, professionalism and flair enable her to create a look that reflects the bride’s unique style and personality.

What are the latest trends in bridal makeup?

The most effective trend is to keep the makeup very polished, elegant and beautiful. I’ve never been big on trends for bridal makeup. So, depending on the style, look, and theme of the brides wedding, I determine her look. If her wedding dress, flowers and venue are classic her makeup will reflect the same so champagne shadows with neutral browns and a pretty pinky brown lip color will look timeless.

Glam and sexy, is of course always an option. I went with a glam and sexy look for my wedding day. This entailed silver bands of beading on my cream satin trumpet dress, candles everywhere, and floral applique wedding cake with sillver beads. The theme of my wedding matched perfectly with my makeup, hair and jewelry, it was all out glam. My eye lids had metallic shimmery golds and bronze eye shadows. On the inside of my eyes I had a dramatic black winged liner and black eye pencil rimmed on the inside of my eyes. My skin was slightly dewy with gold and light pink shimmer powder on my cheek bones and a peachy pink lip gloss to finish off my lips. And of course matte bronzer dusted all over my face and blended down to my neck to look blended and to give me an all over glow. It was a perfect completion to the wedding look I envisioned and the best part of all the makeup photographed beautifully!!!!!

What feature do you find most effective standing out on a bride for her wedding day?

I would have to impulsively say EYES!!!!!! It’s the only area of the face I can be the most creative with and it sets the complete tone and look for the makeup!! And eyelashes are an absolute must!!!!! A bride has a lot of options with how natural or dramatic the lashes can be. So if the bride is on the conservative side I would apply short individual lashes to open her eyes but very naturally placed in between her natural. Then if she wants drama I would apply longer ones and more of them or a full band of lashes. I would also suggest focusing on one area of the face, if your going to do a red lip you should do a subtle eye. If the bride is going to do a smokey look her lips should be nude or soft hues of pink plum or brown. If you do a smokey eye and strong lip it ends looking too severe.

I am passionate about bridal makeup – I love how it can instantly make a bride feel and look beautiful on the most important day of her life.
