WGN Morning News Thanksgiving Segment

November 20, 2013,

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we had so much fun creating three different holiday tables for WGN Morning News last Thursday! We really wanted to highlight different twists on the traditional Thanksgiving table, so we did a “Modern Tradition” table, a “Family Heirloom” table and, of course, a kid’s table!

ModernTradition

Everyone has Thanksgiving traditions they love (hello mashed potatoes!) and we wanted to incorporate this idea of tradition, while bringing some modernity to it.  By pairing wooden chargers and our favorite French Country Chairs from Hall’s with the beautiful new Mandarin Miramar linen from BBJ Linens, it was the perfect mix of rustic and chic. We loved the mini turkey pot pies and gorgeous root vegetable salad Phil Stefani Signature Events created for this tablescape. And Alex Jusino from Exquisite Designs hit the nail on the head with a beautiful arrangement of fresh greens, orchids and roses that complimented the table setting perfectly!

For our “Family Heirloom” table, we really wanted to emphasize using different family knick-knacks that you have around your house to decorate the table. Not only does this cut down on decorating costs, you don’t even have to go outside your house to find them! You can mix and match gold and silver and create an eclectic collection of things, to add interest to the table. We used a rustic farm table with the Durpetti Family’s table runner from Italy and Alex made the most beautiful arrangement of white peonies, blush roses, artichokes and gold leaves to finish the decor perfectly! For the food, we incorporated Michelle’s family traditions, serving pumpkin ravioli and wild mushroom risotto “stuffing”.

The kid’s table is always where all the fun is! Who doesn’t remember throwing at least one roll at your cousin during Thanksgiving while the adults were toasting each other at their grown up table?! With the propensity for silliness at the kid’s table in mind, we created a practically indestructible place for the kids to celebrate. A blow up turkey and paper placemats from Paper Source, small potted trees from Exquisite Designs, and a natural yuma linen and denim napkins from BBJ created a cute place where things could be spilled or thrown without too much fuss. The kid’s table featured delicious turkey nuggets and sweet potatoes from Phil Stefani Signature Events, a cloved gingerbread punch from Femme du Coup and adorable pumpkin pie cookies and turkey cupcakes from Alliance Bakery!
