Welcome Hannah!

May 27, 2014

My name is Hannah Gorman and I am a senior at Otterbein University, located in Columbus, Ohio. Although, I study in Ohio, I am a Chicago girl at heart and always love coming back home to my city. At Otterbein, I am studying Public Relations and would like to take my studies into event planning.

If I am not hanging out with my friends or family, you can find me riding my horse, Jupiter, at my family farm. You can even find me quietly painting or drawing in my spare time. My sport of horse back riding taught me skills such as discipline and leadership, while my love for art taught the freedom of expression and a strong attention to detail. Aside from my bubbly and outgoing personality, those skills gained from my extracurricular activities have shown importance as I venture into the event planning industry.

I found my love for event planning when I became more involved with campus events around my school. Recently, I have interned with my school’s Alumni Department and the local Chamber of Commerce. I have also created with multiple campus events as my sorority’s social chair, a member of PRSSA, and my affiliation with many other campus organizations.

With my final year approaching, I knew I needed to broaden my experience, step up my game, and find an internship opportunity that focused on weddings and large nonprofit events. I started to look around the Chicago area for summer opportunities and researched top event planning companies. Immediately, Michelle Durpetti Events came up and I contacted Michelle Durpetti and her team. After reading the team member bios, the MDE blog, and researching the types of events organized by MDE, I knew that interning with them would be a lifetime opportunity for me. It made me especially happy to see that they had a unique focus of equestrian events, like the Chicago Hunter Derby. As an avid equestrian myself, I knew that this would be the perfect balance I was looking for, and more.

So far, I can see how I have fit right into the MDE team of avid equestrians, determined young women, and the perfect balance of beauty and brains. I could not be more excited to announce my internship with the MDE team and look forward to working on multiple events!
