IN & OUT: Music Trends (part two)

July 27, 2015

As event planners, we are constantly collaborating with top vendors whom are truly experts in what they do. Not only are they knowledgeable and creative, they have a viewpoint unlike any other noting the trends that come, that go… and creating brand new trends themselves! This week our ‘IN & OUT‘ series will hear from a few of our wedding professional friends. We can expect to hear the down and dirty truth about what is ‘in’ and what is ‘out’ as we begin the summer!

No Chicken Dance, no Hokey Pokey, no Macarena…ever.

What’s OUT for Summer 2015?

We are seeing less and less traditions when it comes to the reception. In an effort to not kill the dance floor, brides & grooms no longer want to do the bouquet and garter tosses. Of course organized dances are also out but that decline started a few years back. We’re happy to see the tosses and organized dances go away but special moments like the first dance or parent dances should always be a part of ones wedding in our opinion. Speaking of, in regards to trends, we’re happy the surprise parent dance trend is fading. Don’t get us wrong, it was great fun to surprise the guests when dad & bride broke into “The Wobble” during the father / daughter dance but we like to be a special moment without theatrics.

What’s IN for Summer 2015?

We’re really loving that clients take an interest in all the music for their night. Not just dancing but really thinking about their cocktail & dinner music. Making it their own. Instead of playing the Sinatra / Rat Pack vibe for cocktails, we like to know that the clients are into Indie Rock and create a personalized set for them so everyone recognizes that every aspect of the night including the music is about the bride and groom. It’s not a cookie-cutter playlist. Clients have really been wanting to be hands-on with all the music and that’s great.
