New York Bridal Week

November 2, 2015

Recently, I was given the incredible chance to attend New York Bridal Week with Tina Maroulis-Sweeny of Dimitra’s Bridal in Chicago. Getting an up close and personal experience glued to the side of my extremely talented friend while she met with designers, previewed collections and attended runway shows was unforgettable!

There were many amazing experiences in such a short period of time and I want to highlight a couple of them here for you.

I had the chance to meet with the legendary Romona Keveza, attending her show in the penthouse of the Rockefeller Plaza. The show was filled with bold colors, romantic lace paired with clean lines and florals that’d bring you to your knees.

Getting to meet Francesca Miranda and see her premier her new collection was a beautiful moment for me since she had custom designed the dress that I wore when my family’s business opened their second location.

Also when I met Ivan Meza, himself and Tina, really took the time to help me learn about the fashion side of the wedding industry and all that happens behind the scenes. It is incredible the thought and process that goes into what dresses are selected from each collection to be carried in stories and how the question is answered of what bride is being catered to with every piece. It was such a delight to spend time with both of them.

On top of that, a gorgeous highlight for me was spending the afternoon with Tina and Leigh Price, the creative force behind Stephen Yearick and Ysa Makino. With over the top glamour and elegance, their new collections feature sparkle and silhouettes that transport a bride into instant fantasy.

Whether it was meeting Michal Medina and previewing her evening collection before it hits the United States, attending the Inbal Dror show or meeting Enrica Minelli of Brides International and the dynamic duo of Art + Walk of Inside Weddings, I was in heaven.

It was the last stop on our three days of bridal market adventure left me truly speechless. We went to see Zuhair Murad at the the JW Essex House. His globally known intricate, feminine and signature style is ever-present in these new gowns with much glamour and femininity. In fact, Sofia Vergara recently announced she is wearing Zuhair for her wedding and I cannot wait to see what she chooses!

Meeting countless talented individuals from all over the world, Spain to Israel to Colombia to Italy and everywhere in between, it was inspiring to hear what drives their collections and what the designers themselves say about each piece.

And I cannot even begin to express my gratitude to Tina and the wonderful people that I met; Leigh, Ivan, Francesca, Enrica, thank you! You taught me so much and inspired me greatly.
