This week I am returning to Florence to speak at THE EVENT: Florence, the national destination wedding gathering hosted by Italy for Weddings.

Florence is not just another stop on my calendar as a luxury wedding planner in Italy.
It has meant something to me for most of my life.
I lived there for several years during college. My family is there. Luca is there. It has always felt like a second home, a place that shaped not only my aesthetic, but my worldview. When I walk through Florence, I do not feel like a visitor. I feel like I am stepping back into a chapter of myself that continues to inform the work I do today as a destination wedding planner in Florence and throughout Italy.

And of course Florence would be the place to gather and discuss the future of luxury wedding planning in Italy.
For centuries, this city has defined and contributed to Western civilization, from the Renaissance until now. It shaped how we understand proportion, art, architecture, beauty, and humanism. Generations of artists, architects, and thinkers helped establish Florence as a global reference point for craftsmanship and culture. It feels entirely natural that a national conversation about destination weddings in Italy would happen here.
Planning a destination wedding in Florence carries a particular responsibility. You are working within a living museum. You are designing a wedding in Tuscany surrounded by centuries of artistry. You are collaborating with Italian artisans whose families have been perfecting their craft for generations.
And increasingly, you are working with couples who want something deeper than spectacle.
When I first began planning destination weddings in Italy, luxury was often interpreted through scale. Larger installations. Dramatic build outs. Elaborate floral statements. Italy can absolutely hold grandeur. A palazzo in Florence or a villa in Tuscany can be breathtaking in scale.
But the couples we serve today, whether they are planning a wedding in Florence or elsewhere in Italy, are asking different questions.
They are asking how their guests will feel.
They are asking how to create a meaningful guest journey across a multi day celebration.
They are asking how to honor Italian culture while still feeling like themselves.
Luxury wedding planning in Italy has become less about proving and more about aligning.
It is about thoughtful welcome dinners rooted in regional cuisine. It is about pacing a wedding weekend so guests can experience Florence rather than rush through it. It is about balancing American expectations around organization and communication with the Italian rhythm of production and creativity.

As a Florence wedding planner working regularly with American couples, much of our role at Michelle Durpetti Events is translation. We translate vision into something culturally respectful. We translate expectations into executable timelines. We translate across language, business norms, and hospitality standards.
When it is done well, it feels seamless.
And that seamlessness is what modern luxury feels like.
Speaking at THE EVENT: Florence is not simply about trends. It is about participating in a larger conversation about how destination weddings in Italy are evolving. Italy remains one of the most sought after countries in the world for destination weddings. Florence, in particular, continues to attract couples dreaming of a romantic wedding in Tuscany with depth, history, and intention.
What excites me most is that luxury is becoming more experiential.
More culturally fluent.
More layered.
More personal.
Luxury today is not excess. It is coherence. It is designing a destination wedding in Florence that feels as considered as the city itself.
Florence has shaped Western civilization for centuries. It shaped me personally long before I became a luxury wedding planner in Italy. To return now and contribute to the conversation about the future of destination weddings in Florence feels like a full circle moment.
And I am deeply grateful for that. Allora – siamo pronti per partire?! 🤩
Andiamo a Firenze! 🇮🇹
