Met Gala Recap

Good Morning and happy Tuesday, friends! I don’t know about you, but I had a pretty “Monday filled” Monday yesterday. So, when gorgeous gowns started walking down the red carpet at last night’s Met Gala, I was all for some serious escaping.

Last night’s theme was inspired by Heavenly Bodies, fashion and the Catholic imagination. I loved the strong presence of Renaissance Italy with gorgeous gold brocade and decadent bodices, and loved the golden hair accessories like Rosie Huntington Whitley wore. She reminds me of one of Bocelli’s three muses from La Primavera! She was wearing Ralph Lauren, makeup by Kate Synnott and hair by Christian Wood.

The beautiful brocade with floral details had my dying for Florence last night. The bold lip colors kept it popping and fresh too.

This Ralph Lauren is one I’d love to have in my closet. So simple, and so chic. And Kerry Washington completed the look with Carola Gonzalez makeup, and hair by Takisha Sturdivant-Drew. That amazing Lorraine Schwartz brooch in her hair was also incredible!

Katy Perry was an angel on earth. With a huge wingspan too! Versace killed it on the red carpet last night. Not entirely realistic (how did she sit down with those wings?!), but super gorgeous.

The last of the gilded favorites is my favorite and forever obsession. Kim Kardashian, in Versace, inspired by 90’s supermodel glam. Wearing Lilly Lashes with Makeup by Mario, her look was flawless. One of her big secrets according to her makeup artist was skin prep. He went with Rodial products that of course I want to run out and buy, because, holy perfection. That shiny incredible hair was by Chris Appleton.

Shimmer and metallic was definitely a thing last night, and I am not complaining. So while we move away from gold dresses we will still see golden, gilded decadence in many of the details as seen here with Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton.

That eye though!!! Rachel Goodwin used NARS products on Emma to bring that incredible eye to life.

Emilia Clarke looks like she can slay dragons in real life in this royally inspired piece by the kings of decadence, Dolce & Gabbana.

That incredible floral braid was by Ben Skervin, with makeup by Jillian Dempsey. Loved the deep lip and super rosy cheek against that fair complexion and opulent gown. This just worked for me, I think she carried it off well and it is such a fun look!

Zoe Kravitz. These Jacob & Co earrings. Dying. And that YSL dress was slinky and dark and kind of ominous. Loved it.

Keltie Knight wore Paolo Sebastian and paid homage to the queen herself, Anna Wintour, with handmade Anna earrings. Pretty awesome. Earrings Courtney Prince, makeup Karmen Haik.

Jonelle Monae rocked Marc Jacobs. I always admire her style, but to be honest I did not really love it. The chainmail hood and the hat were two things that I couldn’t see together, but her makeup is flawless.

While we are in the darker shades, can we discuss how Jennifer Lopez does not age?! Is she actually a real life Benjamin Button?? I don’t know. We will never know. But in the meantime, we can admire the heck out of the Balmain gown and Jimmy Choo shoe. Her legs are insanity. Love the hair cut too. Mariel Haenn and Rob Zangardi styled the gorgeous Miss Lopez per usual. In addition to that dress she rocked Tiffany & Co jewels. Scott Barnes did her makeup, Tom Bachik did her nails (and Kim K’s too!) and Lorenzo Martin did her hair. I think I died 10,000 times with this look. The most amazing part of this is that all Balmain looks on last night’s red carpet are being auctioned off to raise money for {Red} and the fight to end Aids.

Rita Ora dazzled in Prada, with makeup by Pat McGrath. Loved the hair and that headpiece by Swarovski.

Of course Madonna brings this theme to life like no other. I feel like it was created for her, actually. Her entire career seems to coincide with it. Jean Paul Gaultier was the perfect choice. That crown was insanity. She also surprised later in the evening with a performance.

Props to co-chair Donatella for having so many gorgeous gowns included in the evening’s festivities and for really shaping that theme. I know this was not a crowd favorite, but I love it. And her. Viva Donatella!!!! Without the overskirt I would wear that dress and obsess over it.

In keeping with Versace, moving into the deep crimson favorites I had from last night. Blake Lively, at 30 owns looks well beyond her years with a feeling of old Hollywood, but carries them with a fresh elegance that I love. Lively paid homage to the 2018 Met Gala theme, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” wearing a custom Versace gown featuring regal embroidery, a bejeweled bodice and a full skirt.

She accessorized with over $2 million worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewelry including a custom-made halo with over 100 carats of nude champagne diamonds, a pair of 30-carat Colombian emerald and diamond earrings, an armful of gold bracelets, three diamond and ruby rings, and of course, her personal oval Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring. Can we say hail to the Met Gala queen?!

Another deep red that I loved. Pryanka Chopra is always someone that I love to see hit a red carpet. She is beautiful, and has such cool style. Her looks are never the same, but have an easy and confident sexy to them that radiates from the inside out. She always gets a gold star in my book. And the Ralph Lauren gown and cape do not disappoint me.

Olivia Munn rocked a very cool color that I saw a lot of in NYC during bridal market. A saffrony, yellow gold. Loved this look from H&M, of all places! Carly Fisher makeup, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Chad Wood for the win with her hair.

Amanda Seyfried brought a very Greek/Roman Helen of Troy feel to her look. I loved it. The hair, the incredibly frothiness of that gown, Prada knocked this out of the park. And that yellow is something I am really starting to feel for summer.

Another look that brought me all the Renaissance feels was Kate Bosworth. Makeup by Kate Synnott, dress by the incredible Oscar De La Renta. Her hair is what makes this look for me, it is inspired by historical accounts of women’s hairstyles during the Renaissance. Obsessing.

And then, this happened. Vera Wang takes Michelangelo’s last judgement, from the Sistine Chapel and creates this incredible gown. Hail to Vera, because WOW. And Arianna Grande pulled it off beautifully. I could have done without the massive bow? But I can let it slide because THAT DRESS. Ashley K. Holm did her makeup – can we discuss that eyeliner?! Incredible. Josh Liu did the hair.

A nod to THE queen, Anna Wintour in Chanel. Hail. ????????

And now, my most favorite look of the night. Mariel Haenn and Rob Zangardi style some of my favorite Hollywood actors. Jennifer Lopez, and this young woman, Hailee Steinfeld. Gregory Russell did her hair, and I loved it. Mary Phillips on makeup with THAT lip – bold, dark red and juxtaposed against the clean whites of the rest of her ensemble added complexity to the look.

A slightly smoky eye shadow drew attention toward her face, while the dresses long slit pulled eyes down.

She added strings of pearls around her neck and a pendulum necklace fell even further down her chest.

The back of the dress was stacked with wave upon wave of light cloth, while a matching pair of luminous heels gave the star an extra bit of serenity from Jimmy Choo. It is just everything to me. And at 21, her 8th Met Gala. Talk about composure and poise. I am definitely a fan of this young woman’s inner radiance, confidence and sensuality. Get it Hailee!

Thank you to all the stars, stylists, makeup + hair artists, jewelers, and designers that that gave so much inspiration last night at the 2018 Met Gala. It was absolutely heavenly!
