We have always believed that a wedding rain plan should never feel like the consolation prize.
We were thrilled to recently share our perspective with Destination I Do for their feature, Why Loving Your Wedding Rain Plan Really Matters, featuring Kaylie + Tanner’s beautiful celebration at Villa Medicea di Lilliano in Tuscany.

Their wedding became a perfect example of something we talk about often with our clients: planning for weather does not mean expecting something to go wrong. It means creating another version of the celebration that feels every bit as thoughtful, beautiful and intentional as the original vision.
How to Create a Wedding Rain Plan You Actually Love
For Kaylie + Tanner, rain meant shifting the celebration into the villa’s centuries-old library and covered spaces. Rather than trying to replicate the outdoor plan indoors, we leaned into what made the new setting special, layering chandeliers, Italian string lights, greenery and candlelight to create something warm, romantic and incredibly intimate.

As Michelle shared with Destination I Do:
“I try to reframe the rain plan as another version of the same design story, not a lesser option or an emergency solution.”
That philosophy extends far beyond design. A successful destination wedding rain plan requires logistics, communication and a vendor team prepared to move together when a decision is made.
When those conversations happen early, our couples do not have to spend their wedding day watching the forecast or worrying about what happens next.
Instead, they can be present.

What a Rainy Tuscany Wedding Taught Us About Plan B
Destination weddings come with variables. Weather is one of them, and particularly when planning a wedding in Italy, understanding the venue, its indoor and outdoor spaces, vendor logistics and the timing required to make a weather call is an important part of the planning process.
A strong Plan B is not simply about moving everything inside. It is about considering how the guest experience, design, lighting, flow and feeling of the celebration translate into a different space.
And sometimes, as Kaylie + Tanner’s wedding reminded us, the unexpected version becomes incredibly memorable in its own right.
