On a beautiful evening in June, we had the tremendous honor of supporting the Festa della Repubblica celebration hosted by the Consulate General of Italy in Chicago at the historic and iconic Chicago History Museum.
This annual event commemorates Italy’s transition to a republic in 1946—a moment of profound national pride—and brings together community leaders, cultural ambassadors, and lovers of all things Italian for an evening of celebration, heritage, and connection. As someone who is proudly Italian-American, and as the granddaughter of immigrants who made their home and their lives here in Chicago, this event is especially meaningful to me both personally and professionally.
At Michelle Durpetti Events, we were thrilled to provide logistical and event support, helping to bring the Consul General’s vision to life alongside a spectacular team of collaborators. From thoughtful guest experiences to the flow of the evening, every element was designed to honor Italy’s rich cultural history with modern elegance and unforgettable hospitality.
We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners, including:
And a heartfelt grazie mille to the amazing array of Italian restaurants and brands who shared their food and spirits with our guests, including Eataly, Ferrero, Barilla, Volare, Elio’s Pizza Fire, Rockin’ Ravioli, Vero Gelato, and Joe Perillo BMW, just to name a few—coordinated with care and precision by Joe Monastero.
This year’s event was made even more special for me personally, as I had the extraordinary honor of being named a Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia (Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy). This distinction is one of the highest honors conferred by the Italian Republic, recognizing those who have made significant contributions to fostering friendly relations and cooperation between Italy and other countries.
To be recognized in this way—at an event so close to my heart—was deeply humbling. It is a privilege to represent my heritage in all that I do, and this night was a shining reminder of the beauty and strength of community, culture, and collaboration.
Here’s to la dolce vita, and to many more moments where we celebrate heritage, heart, and hospitality.
