Planning a wedding is an exciting journey, but when you’re planning a destination wedding in Italy, it comes with its own unique set of truths. As an Italian destination wedding planner, I recently sat down to share some honest insights about wedding planning, Pinterest boards, budgets, guest expectations, and why having a planner is truly an investment—not a luxury.

Pinterest is a wonderful tool for inspiration, but it’s not the same as a professional design board. A board filled with pretty photos doesn’t automatically translate into a cohesive wedding design. Context—your venue, your location in Italy, and your budget—matters. A professional planner and designer can help transform inspiration into a customized vision that works in reality.
Whether you dream of fireworks, a champagne tower, or late-night dancing, know that these often require permits, additional vendors, or extended staffing. Staying later into the night almost always means higher costs—something true in both the U.S. and Italy. Part of my job is making sure clients understand these logistics upfront so there are no surprises later.
A common myth is that vendors inflate prices simply because it’s a wedding. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Photographers, videographers, planners, and designers are artists and professionals dedicating hundreds of hours to each celebration. I personally put 400–500 hours into every wedding I plan, and that’s before counting the work of my team. What you’re investing in is expertise, artistry, and an unforgettable experience.
It’s natural to want your guests to see your wedding as a vacation, but in reality, they’re traveling for you. Guests want structure, communication, and clarity about the events surrounding your wedding. At Michelle Durpetti Events, we design guest-centered experiences so that your loved ones feel cared for, while you get to be fully present in celebrating your love story.
Hiring a planner isn’t about luxury—it’s about strategy, knowledge, and peace of mind. A planner brings expertise in culture, language, logistics, and vendor relationships, helping you make thoughtful, informed decisions. My responsibility is not only to guide you to spend your budget wisely but to do so collaboratively so you feel confident about every choice along the way.
At the heart of planning any wedding—especially in Italy—is trust, honesty, and communication. My role as your planner is to guide you through the process, manage expectations, and help you bring your vision to life in a way that’s beautiful, realistic, and meaningful.
