Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day don’t need to be overproduced to be meaningful. In fact, the most memorable Valentine’s or Galentine’s celebrations often feel effortless — not because they lacked intention, but because the intention was clear from the start.
At its core, Valentine’s Day is about connection, and Galentine’s Day is about celebrating friendship. Romantic or platonic, long-standing or newly formed, the relationships we choose to honor deserve time, care, and a setting that allows people to simply be present with one another.

A great Valentine’s or Galentine’s celebration begins with the people, not the plan. Before thinking about menus or flowers, it’s worth asking who you actually want around the table. Is this a quiet Valentine’s dinner for two, a candlelit Galentine’s gathering with close friends, or a relaxed group dinner that spills late into the night? When the guest list feels right, everything else tends to fall into place more naturally.
From there, atmosphere does the heavy lifting. Soft lighting changes the entire mood of a space. Candles create intimacy without trying too hard. Fresh flowers, even in simple arrangements, bring warmth and life into a room. Music should feel like a gentle undercurrent — present enough to set the tone, quiet enough to allow conversation to unfold without interruption. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s ease.

Food should follow the same philosophy. Whether you’re cooking at home or planning a Valentine’s or Galentine’s dinner out, it should feel generous and inviting, not stressful. If you’re hosting at home, choose dishes that can be prepared ahead of time so you’re not pulled away from your guests. One special element is plenty. Dessert should be something worth lingering over, because some of the best moments happen after plates are cleared.

And sometimes, the most elegant Valentine’s or Galentine’s idea is not cooking at all. Choosing a favorite restaurant can be just as meaningful, especially if it’s a place that already holds memories or feels rooted in tradition. A great restaurant brings built-in ambiance, rhythm, and energy, allowing you to focus entirely on the people you’re celebrating. That’s exactly what we did and chose to celebrate at Gene & Georgetti, which felt perfectly aligned — warm, classic, and timeless. Wherever you go, the idea is simple: linger longer than usual, order dessert, and let the evening unfold naturally.
What elevates any Valentine’s or Galentine’s celebration is one intentional moment — something small but personal. A handwritten note, a shared toast, a favorite dessert tied to a memory, or even a simple question asked around the table. These thoughtful touches transform a gathering into a meaningful celebration.
The best Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day gatherings are never rushed. Leave space for conversation to wander, for laughter to take over, for plans to change. Comfort is often the highest compliment a host can give, and when people feel comfortable, they stay.

In the end, Valentine’s Day is about connection, and Galentine’s Day is about chosen family. What lingers isn’t how elaborate the table was or how curated the moment looked, but how people felt in the space you created. Seen. Welcomed. Appreciated.
That’s what turns a Valentine’s or Galentine’s dinner — whether at home or out — into a celebration that lasts long after the candles burn out.
Love is in the air—but let’s be honest, it’s not just about romance. It’s about the people who lift you up, support your dreams, cheer for your wins, and remind you that you’re never alone. And that, my friends, is why Galentine’s Day is officially one of my favorite ways to celebrate love.

I teamed up with Jen Worman to host an unforgettable Galentine’s celebration at Gene and Georgetti’s second-floor space in Chicago. And let me tell you—it was a night filled with friendship, laughter, great food, and plenty of wine (of course). Because at the end of the day, being a “girl’s girl” isn’t just about friendships—it’s a mindset. It’s about supporting one another, lifting each other up, and creating a community where we all thrive.
