Predictions for the Royal Wedding

May 16, 2018

It’s that time of year, spring has finally arrived! Before I go any further let me take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Megan and I am new team member at Michelle Durpetti Events. I join the team with hands-on experience in hospitality. I am a soon to be graduate from Elmhurst College and have a strong background in writing. I have a love for words, and of course all things weddings! You might be seeing more blogs like these from me soon. So, don’t forget to read and follow along!

Now back to THE wedding everyone is talking about. The royal wedding! Kensington Palace confirmed back in December that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will marry on this coming Saturday, May 19, 2018. Everyone is talking about the couple to be and many are speculating on what this day may have in store. Here are some of our predictions.

{ Traditions will be broken. }
Sure, royal traditions have been broken before especially with royal newbies like the Duchess of Cambridge Kate. Although, nothing that was ever too far off the beaten path. The first tradition we have already seen broken is the day of the week the ceremony will take place. Prince Harry and Meghan have chosen to get married on a Sunday. Normally all other royal couples choose to get married during the week. For example, Prince William and Kate got married on a Friday and the Queen got married on a Thursday. It is likely that this will not be the only royal tradition broken.

{ The Dress. Old Hollywood Glam meets Modern Day Princess. }
Every wedding dress designer wants to be- the one. Who has Meghan chose to design her dress? We have yet to find out. However, speculations right now are pointing to Alexander McQueen. No matter who the designer is Meghan is ready to take on her royal role and will do so in such sophisticated style. We think Meghan will go for a dress that incorporates classic elements combined with a few modern twists. Perhaps a classic ball gown, but with a removable overskirt.

{ Personal Touches will be EVERYWHERE. }
It is rumored that certain decor elements may hint at inside jokes between the couple and will likely be placed throughout the ceremony and reception. Additionally, since Meghan is from America she wants American foods incorporated into her wedding. Instead of fish and chips there will be French fries and hot dogs served for late snacks.

What We Know So Far

{ Cake }
Harry and Megan have asked for “lemon elderflower cake and flavors of spring” from Violet Cakes London who is doing the royal wedding cake. We love that the bakery was quoted as saying “both Harry and Megan share so many of the same values when it comes to food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and flavor…” this is going to be one delicious confection!

{ Floral }
Philippa Craddock has been selected to create the floral, and the prince and his bride have elected to go with locally sourced greenery and seasonal flowers including peonies, garden roses and foxgloves. Megan is fond of sharing peonies on her social media, we can’t help but agree with her choices!

{ Invitations }
The invitations, designed by Barnard and Westwood, follow a longstanding Royal tradition and feature the Three-Feathered Badge of the Prince of Wales printed in gold ink – swoon!
