When someone underestimates your value, remember: only you define your worth. Embracing your worth as an entrepreneur has been central to my journey as a daughter, equestrian, restaurateur, event designer, and proud recipient of the Stella d’Italia. I’ve navigated many spheres that challenge me to show up with grace, conviction, and clarity. Every chapter has reinforced a simple truth: our worth is found in how we live our values, not in how others perceive us.

1. Finding Value Through Hospitality and Heritage
I grew up immersed in hospitality—my family’s legacy at Gene & Georgetti, Chicago’s original Tuscan steakhouse, is built on authenticity, craftsmanship, and community. Being the third generation to carry that torch is both an honor and a responsibility. It has shaped the way I see value—not just in business, but in every moment of service, intention, and connection we create.
2. Life Lessons from the Equestrian Arena

Horses have always been my “why.” I started competing at nine, and today, riding in amateur-owner hunter and adult jumper divisions continues to teach me discipline, patience, and grace under pressure. The arena reminds me that self-worth isn’t defined by applause—it’s about showing up, being present, and recognizing your own light. Horses humble me, push me, and make me better—not only as a rider, but as a leader, planner, and entrepreneur.
3. Vision That Grows with You
Launching Michelle Durpetti Events in 2008 allowed me to transform creativity into immersive, intentional experiences. From weddings in Tuscany to celebrations in Chicago, I’ve seen firsthand how storytelling shapes unforgettable moments.
That vision has grown into new chapters:
These endeavors aren’t just business milestones—they are extensions of my commitment to service, legacy, and creating beauty with intention.
4. Leadership, Legacy, and Giving Back

As a Knight of Alba, board member with PAWS Chicago and the Illinois Restaurant Association, and a woman recognized among the Top 50 Planners nationally, I lead with empathy, clarity, and courage. I am also honored to serve on the Board of Trustees for the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, where I support organizations that expand access to the performing arts in Chicago.

In 2025, I received the “Stella d’Italia” (Order of the Star of Italy) from the Italian government—a recognition that reflects my lifelong dedication to preserving and promoting Italian culture abroad. For me, it was more than an award—it was an affirmation of my heritage, my family’s legacy, and the work I continue to do to connect my two worlds: Chicago and Italy.
For me, true worth is measured not just by business accomplishments, but by how you mentor others, foster community, and honor the traditions and culture that shape you.
Today, amici miei…
Your worth isn’t a reflection of what others see—it’s the sum of your passions, your purpose, and your pursuit of authenticity. My journey reminds me daily that value is created in the details: a well-executed event, a horse show round filled with heart, a meal that connects generations, a celebration that becomes a memory.

So I ask you: how do you celebrate your own worth?
