The couple tied the knot without any guests present, telling PEOPLE they “wanted to do something just for ourselves”

Jay Glazer tied the knot!

The TV personality, and Fox NFL Sunday sports reporter exchanged vows with model Rosie Tenison at the luxe Borgo Santandrea hotel in Conca dei Marini on Italy’s Amalfi Coast on Tuesday, May 7.

Glazer, 54, tells PEOPLE he asked Tenison to choose her “dream destination,” and she immediately landed on the Mediterranean hot spot. “Italy was her answer in less than a second,” he recalls.

Instead of drawing up a big guest list, the couple decided to elope, with the help of event planner Michelle Durpetti. “We wanted to do something just for ourselves and asked our loved ones to be there with us in spirit,” Glazer explains.

For the couple, their wedding was all about honoring their “long, beautiful journey” together and showing people “it’s never too late to find love.”

They held their ceremony at sunset, to the sounds of a string quartet, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The backdrop was the infinite blue sea accented by white lush florals during the ceremony and bold colors for the dinner party, all inspired by what grows locally in Amalfi.

Glazer adds of the location, “I wanted a stunning backdrop that the 5-year-old version of Rosie would think she was in a fairy tale.”

An Italian rabbi performed the wedding ceremony under a chuppah made by florist Malafronte, and Glazer and Rosie exchanged handwritten vows.

The bride walked down the aisle to a classic — Pachelbel’s Canon in D — wearing a custom, form-fitting gown with lots of lace detailing. Rosie describes the look as “classic and beautiful.”

Glazer sported a suit from the Michael Strahan Collection, styled by Fox Sports head stylist Victoria Trilling.

Per Jewish tradition, the couple broke a glass during their ceremony and then shared their first kiss as husband and wife to “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. “It’s the song we listen to on a daily basis,” Glazer says.

They chose “No One” by Alicia Keys as their official wedding song — played during their first toast — and shared their first dance to “Heaven” by Bryan Adams.

They celebrated their newlywed status with a five-course dinner at Borgo Santandrea’s Michelin-star restaurant, featuring a menu selected by Glazer and Rosie in collaboration with the venue.

For dessert, they had a wedding cake — and it came with a special story.

“Our cake was made by a true American military hero named Shoshana Johnson. Shoshana was captured in Iraq and held captive for 22 grueling days yet survived and was rescued by a group of Marines,” explains Glazer, who does a lot of philanthropic work helping active-duty military and veterans with their mental health and even started a charity, called MVP, to assist veterans in their transition to civilian life.

Rosie and with her identical twin sister Renee were pioneers in breaking barriers for black models. Known as the Tenison Twins, Rosie was the first ever African American cover model for Frederick’s Of Hollywood and starred as a showcase girl on The Price Is Right. Rosie and Renee were also the famed DoubleMint Twins in the DoubleMint gum commercial. She’s also regular cast member on ESPN’s long running morning fitness show Flex Appeal among other TV credits such as Married With Children, Martin, The Steve Harvey Show sitcom and Full House.

She and Glazer first met during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. She and her sister Renee were friends with Glazer’s assistant, Nikki Ziering, and would come to his house to hang out. On their third visit, Glazer and Rosie connected over a deep conversation about God and spirituality, and the sports expert asked Rosie out on a date.

He recalls saying to Renee that night, “Your sister has never been married before? Well I’m the one who’s going to marry her!”

“The rest is history, as I made good on my prediction,” Glazer says.

He spontaneously proposed to Rosie on Feb. 23, 2023, while the couple was on a boat in the middle of the ocean in Thailand. “I didn’t have a ring so I used string from a cutlery set they had onboard,” Glazer recounts to PEOPLE.

They kept their engagement a secret over the next month until Glazer had time to buy a “proper” ring and do a more official proposal. They shared the news publicly on March 15.

As they reflect on their wedding, the pair says they feel lucky to have found each other and taken this momentous step together.

“For a long time, I felt things were against me having love. That’s what depression and anxiety tells you,” Glazer says. “It turns out I have been waiting my entire life for Rosie. While we are getting married later in life, if it’s for an eternity, then 54 years of waiting is nothing when compared to a ‘forever’ bond.”

“I finally found my soulmate,” Rosie declares, reflecting on her path to meeting Glazer. “I was always going to be very particular, even if it meant being alone. I did a lot of work on myself in my 30s, preparing myself to be strong in life, assuming that man would never come. Jay didn’t just come, he kicked the door down as my knight in shining armor and allowed me to drop my own armor and really blossom in how beautiful it is to love.”

The morning after their wedding, Glazer and Rosie kicked off their honeymoon with a two-day stay in Ravello, Italy, to be followed by stops in Capri, Tuscany and Rome. “Then we’ll return home to a slew of wedding dinners our friends are going to throw for us,” Glazer says.

And as they settle into married life together, the two look forward to “a lot of love, tons of nights in Malibu drinking wine and looking over the beach, thanking God for finally getting us here.”
